our week, instagrammed

A tiny peek into our week through filtered iphone photos.

Our final backyard harvest this year.

The boys are still crazy about melting beads.

Repurposed pretty packaging.
If only I like tomato soup.

Play dough rainbow.

Lucky little girl has her brothers to arrange her babies at naptime.

Painting wooden critters never gets old.

Clean fridge.
Hate the process, love the result.

Sister's dollhouse turned Lego bad guy fort.

Changing my mind on colors.  Again.

our craft and school cabinet

Something about the change of seasons makes me want to nest.
Organize, purge...light a pumpkin candle.
It just feels right. :)

I mentioned a few weeks ago how I've been itching to redecorate, but that's been slow going.
We're in a sort of limbo with sleeping arrangements, so my decorating's in a holding pattern.
Who knew adding one tiny human to the mix could be so complicated??
Four bedrooms, five people, and I haven't found the right solution.

First world problems for sure.
So in the meantime, a whole bunch of happy craft supplies together at last in a cabinet. :)

During naps the other day, my 5 year old and I organized/purged craft and school supplies into a single cupboard.
Our system wasn't working.
A little bit here, a little bit there...some things up too high, some things in a locked drawer.  School papers a mess.
Not so good.

This cabinet sits in our guest room.
I was keeping baby clothes in it, but for the past few months it's been sitting empty.
So school and craft supplies went in.

Nothing fancy, just like things kept with like things.
Everything accessible to the boys. A bench and a chair sitting beside it if they need to reach something.

I'm so happy that I didn't spend a penny.
Usually my organizing involves buying color coordinated baskets and crates and file folders. :)
This time I used what I had.

And btw...these are supplies for my children.
I don't mind sharing, it's just that some things are for mom only...and some things are just not okay for a preschooler/kindergartner.
And those things have a whole room, not just a cabinet. :)

I dream that one day it will be neat and organized and ready for pictures on my blog.
Until then, turn on an episode of Hoarders.
You'll get the picture. Ha!

Happy day, friends.

ABC art for less than 2 bucks

Free ABC awesomeness from mrprintables.com

$1.50 thrifted frame (freshened up with a little spray paint)

Perfect for Sister's room.

I feel like I hit the jackpot.
I want to print everything!!
I still might. Ha.
Like this map or these adorable French flashcards or the party hats!  And I just love this Advent calendar idea.

This was too good not to share!

the past couple of weeks instagrammed

I never posted last week's instagram photos, so here's a little catch up of last week and this week, too!

A tiny glimpse of our life, in filtered iphone pics...

Our family as vintage Little People.
Thank you etsy.

Sister can get herself up the stairs.
Commence anxiety attacks.

When she's not climbing stairs, she also enjoys throwing magnets everywhere.  #shouldhaveseenthatcoming

Finally created a craft and school supply cupboard for the boys.  Finally.

My favorite and oh-so-familiar red shopping carts.

My generic grocery store lunchmeat surprised me with a happy heart.

Sunshine in the prayer garden waiting for school pick ups.

I spray painted.
The boys had a shaving cream fight.
A win all around.

A happy surprise for lunch.

A 3 year old's attempt at a practical joke.

And I still shrieked like Ned Flanders.

The 3rd anniversary of my 29th birthday calls for cupcakes and rainbow sprinkles.

Look out, fluffernutters.  This stuff is good.

Happy weekend, friends!

q & a

I'll confess.  Instagram is making me a lazy lazier blogger.
It's just so easy to snap a quick iphone pic instead of actually sitting down and blogging details about projects.
So my projects sit trapped on a memory card and words about them trapped in my head for now.

Anywho, along with the laundry and dishes, I have loads of unanswered emails/facebook messages/comments piling up.
Some are specific, some are general...but here are some of the questions I've gotten more than once.

How has your gumdrop wreath held up?
Really, really well.
When I made it, I was sure to give it a liberal coating of sealer, and even after all these years, it still looks like it did the day I made it.
And for the record, I've always hung it inside, out of direct sunlight.  When I store it, I wrap it in tissue and keep it in a Rubbermaid container in the basement.

How has your no-sew roman shade held up?
Not quite as well as the gumdrop wreath.

After about 2 years the glue started to deteriorate on the edges.  The shade was still totally functional and looked okay.  But then the boys started trying to open and close the shade themselves, so the cord got tangled and I just gave up.

I made the new curtain with an Ikea panel and some yellow pom pom trim.  I like that it lets in a lot more light...and I was ready for a change anyway. :)

As a disclaimer...our kitchen door gets full sun, morning til night, 365 days a year...I'm sure the same shade on a window that only gets partial sun would hold up better...probably for a really, really long time.

Where did you get your tin back splash?  Did you install it yourself?
We ordered it online from this company about 4 years ago.  I think this is the pattern??
We did not install it ourselves.  I'm sure if you're comfortable cutting the tin, it would  probably be an easy DIY project.

Where is your kitchen tile from?
We bought it from a local dealer.  I can't find a link on their site, but Overstock.com also sells it here.

Where did you get your bathroom tile?
Same local dealer as the kitchen tile.

Where did you find the boys' firehouse?
Santa got it at Costco 3 or 4 years ago.  I think it's made by Kid Kraft.  If you're a Costco shopper, keep an eye out, as I've seen them around Christmastime every year since.

What is your magnet board?
It's an oil drip pan I bought at Walmart.  I got the idea here.  And Corey...if you're reading...please come back to blogging!  We miss your beautiful pictures!

How do you use your bounce flash?
I'm still waaaay too unfamiliar with it to give any good advice.

I like experimenting and figuring things out, so for now, I just keep playing with the positioning of the flash until I like the result and snap away.  That's working for me. :)

Anything else you're wondering about??
Ask away, my friends.
