Periodic Table Crafty Art
This project was another of my submissions to SYTYC. The theme for the week was "scientific." What's more scientific than the periodic table? (Probably a lot. I always got Cs in science!)
Inspired by this project, here's how I made them. I needed nothing more than some scrapbooking letters, craft paint and small pieces of wood.
I bought the wood pieces at Michael's for about a buck a piece. They're each about 5 x 8. I painted each in a solid coat of craft paint. I thought red, orange and a lime green were science-y looking. :)
After the paint was completely dry, I masked off a 1/4 inch border.
Then I stuck on the letters I wanted to used for each "element," as well as another piece of tape, 2 inches from the bottom.
Then I painted over the entire thing with white paint.
I let it dry overnight and then carefully peeled off the tape and scrapbook stickers.
I then gave each one its own atomic number and element name, again with scrapbook stickers.
I did a few teeny tiny touch ups with a toothpick and then sealed them all with a coat of Mod Podge.
That last one that is slightly crooked is driving me bananas!!
You could also spread the science nerdiness and make different elements for places other than the craft room. A playroom, child's bedroom or kitchen could all up their geek factor with some fun scientific art!
