Boys' room art

I've never been a big fan of the cheesy nursery or children's "art" I've found in stores, and I think the things geared toward little boys is especially lame.

Trucks? Bugs? Airplanes? Disney characters? Things labeled "little slugger"? I shudder. To make matters worse, I think these things are quickly outgrown. No self-respecting 8 year old would want to be seen with those.

So when I found these prints from the Norman Rockwell Museum store, I was thrilled. Fun, whimisical, boyish, and best of all, something that fits nicely with my style and blends with the rest of our home. I've always loved Saturday Evening Post covers as art, and no other artist is so all-American and classic as Norman Rockwell.

I have these hung in the hallway leading to the Little Guys' room.

"Sporting Boys"

"Sporting Boys Golf"

"Day in the Life of a Boy"

That iconic signature.

At about $25 a piece, these weren't much more expensive than a lot of the typical things I saw in the store, and I got frames for $5 each at Menard's. All together, this gallery was less than $100, and I'm thrilled there's nothing cheesy about it.

And while we're talking about children's decorating...of course, I'm still trying to decide what to do with these.

  1. Nice pics

    ☼Hope you're having a sunshine ☼ filled Sunday!☼

  2. Hey there....thanks so much for coming over, commenting and following me and for the lovely things that you said..... I love the pictures for your boys....I know what you mean about some of the things that you can get for childrens rooms..the ones that you have found are brilliant. My children are grown up now but I'm sure that grandchildren aren't too far away ( although I think that they are having too much fun at the moment to want children) but if and when they come along I will know where to go to get those pictures ( mind you, I don't know if you can get them in the U.K.!!!!) XXXX

  3. I love these! Norman Rockwell can never be outgrown!

  4. Norman Rockwell is timeless! You made some great selections :-)

  5. Cute ideas. I just rearranged both our boys rooms this weekend and my younges has informed me that he no longer wants some his wall art anymore :(. More changes are a comin'. Just have to figure out what. Wonder if he would like Norman Rockwell? I do so classic and precious. I'll have to get him to take a look see.

  6. I just read what I wrote. Can you tell I am punchy and tired?!?!?!?

  7. I think we share the same feelings on character themes! Love your solution!! I recently ranted about Too Much Pooh on my blog.

  8. I love Norman Rockwell. His art is timeless and looks fabulous anywhere...I enjoyed revisiting some of his pieces through your blog! :)

  9. I hear you loud and clear! It took me forever to find the perfect nursery set for my son. Even when I did finally settle on one, it was more of a "lesser of all the evils" kind of thing.

These are awesome though! My son is only 7 months, so the cutesy boy baby stuff is still okay. But when he gets a bit older, I'll definitely be looking for something like these photos.

  10. What an amazing post that I have ever come through. It gives the information that I was really searching for the past week and I am really satisfied with this post. Need more like this. Thank you.

Thanks for visiting!
